Franklin County Historical Society and Convention and Tourism Board secure a second grant for a self guided audio walking tour of downtown Ottawa. The Attrac tion Development Grant awards total just over 1 million across Kansas with Franklin County receiving 4000 dollars for the kiosk plan aiming for seven displays.

Powell murder trial enters jury selection phase
Jury selection opened in the second degree murder case against John R. Powell, 45, of Overbrook, charged with beating and dumping Barney Riley, 39, in Centropolis area. Riley was found June 11 near Shawnee and Indiana streets. Powell admitted dumping the body but claimed Riley was alive when left.
