Researchers in northwest Kansas push back the date of human presence on the Great Plains to about 11,000 to 11,500 years ago, challenging the view that initial contact crossed the Bering Strait around 12,000 years ago. The site suggests a mobile nomadic family camp, implying a rough inland migration following animal herds.
