Sebelius halts Blue Cross sale in Kansas dispute
Kansas Insurance Commissioner Kathleen Sebelius rejected Anthem Insurance Companies Inc.’s proposed purchase of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas. She argued the deal would raise consumer premiums by hundreds of millions over five years, harming businesses and families. Anthem disputed the legal team’s findings, saying policyholders would see no major coverage changes beyond a name and card update. Blue Cross policyholders earlier approved the sale by a 63.4 percent margin.
