Franklin County official honored by aging agency

Franklin County Commissioner Charles Mayity received a certificate of recognition from East Central Kansas Area Agency on Aging for two years as treasurer on the policy board. He helped set budgets secure grants and raise private funds for the Prescription Drug Program. Mayity will be succeeded by a Linn County official.

RMH Hosts Two Continuing Education Sessions on Feb 16

RMH Ransom Memorial Hospital will hold two CE sessions in Conference Room A on February 16. Nutritionist Diane Griffith will present Chronic Diseases and Food-Whats a Body to Do? The morning 9 am to noon focus is on food components and coronary heart disease risk factors, while 1 to 4 pm covers food components and cancer cell growth. Feds prepare case against AT&T on insider trading

Federal prosecutors plan to charge AT&T Corp with possible insider trading violations. An AT&T executive’s identity was not disclosed. The U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York and the SEC were to announce the indictment at a New York news conference. AT&T is headquartered in New York.

Local MS Walk to Kick Off April 8 in Ottawa

The Ottawa MS Walk, part of a region wide event by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, will begin at First Christian Church and cover five to seven miles. Registration is required with 3,000 pamphlets available. volunteers can form teams and raise pledges for prizes, including trips and electronics, with drawings for larger donors. Proceeds fund local literature, equipment, and patient support in the MidAmerica chapter serving 105 counties in Kansas and Missouri.

Downtown Ottawa group eyes March food drive

The Ottawa Downtown Business Association discussed a March food drive to stock Hope House food bank. Russ Reeves said Hope House is the charity for the drive and noted downtown street repairs on Main Street with a mid March start, avoiding conflict with a new Wal Mart Supercenter opening. The association will continue its downtown watch and meet again March 7.
