Crumbling Ottawa Building Faces Prolonged Demolition
The 130 year old 124 S. Main St. structure in Ottawa, former Hometown Computers site, is decaying with bricks falling onto neighboring properties. Ottawa city commissioners voted to remove the third story, awaiting Kansas Historical Society review within five days. Demolition would be gradual, eight inches at a time, pending a safe plan protecting neighbors and the historic district. The owner must work with the city to finalize a plan for possible full or partial demolition to prevent further damage.
