Garnett board delays all day kindergarten plan

Garnett school board entertained four motions on all day, every day kindergarten for 1992 93 then moved to start in 1993 94 with a half day option. The board voted to keep Mont Ida schools open and to close seventh and eighth grades at Greeley with students transferring to Garnett.

Dover man pleads guilty to rape and murder of 12-year-old girl

In Shawnee County, Jon H. Mareska Jr., 22, admitted to premeditated first-degree murder, aggravated kidnapping, rape and aggravated criminal sodomy in the October case. He faces two life terms plus two terms of at least 10 years, with parole possible after 40 years. Sentencing set for March 10.

Space camp scholarship offered to Ottawa girls

The Ottawa Branch of the American Association of University Women sponsors a scholarship fund to send one girl to the Future Astronaut Training Program at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson, June 21 to 26.
