Farm Group Urges Rejection Of KCC Bill In Senate Hearing
Ivan Wyatt president of the Kansas Farmers Union urged a Senate Ways and Means panel to reject a bill stripping the State Corporation Commission of authority to regulate rural electric cooperatives and contracts with public utilities. He argued the move targets the KCC after its 17 percent price cap ruling on the Wolf Creek sale to KEPCo, a cap now regarded as unworkable as total costs rose to 1.7 billion. The measure would sever regulatory oversight, risking captive co op users and questionable nuclear costs at the Burlington plant joint owned by Kansas Gas and Electric and Kansas City Power and Light. The committee will continue hearings with KCC Chairman Pete Loux testifying.
