Ex Kansan Confident Of Top GOP Post
Ex Topekan Art Fletcher predicted at a news conference he will win the national Republican chairmanship when the GOP National Committee votes January 14. Fletcher, 52, now deputy assistant to President Ford on urban affairs, says his closest rival is Richard Richards of Utah and that neither has 75 votes yet. He expects to secure a majority by the vote and would not take the vice chairmanship if defeated, citing strong southern GOP support.
