Government Safety Study Says The Price Doesn’t Mean Quality
Government safety officials announced that tire price does not reflect quality or safety. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released a new tire grading system showing some tires cost up to $30 more yet perform similarly, with some name brands showing wide tread wear differences. The agency notes all tires meet minimum safety standards, but some are safer and rates will help consumers compare brands. A free booklet with the Uniform Tire Quality Grading List is available by writing to the agency.
