Battered Wives Get New Start At Shelter
In Anne Arundel County Maryland a shelter for battered wives opened with Good Neighbors Unlimited leasing the house for $1 a year. Since August eight women and children have stayed there. The effort grew from Sarah Stewart and Judge James I Wray with County Executive Robert Pascal backing the project. A Baltimore House of Ruth shelter is planned, and advocates urge reduced stigma and greater openness about domestic abuse.
