Cotton farmer seeds success in wheat state near Anthony

Gary Feist helped form a cooperative to build a cotton gin south of Anthony after Oklahoma mills and trucking costs forced farmers to Burns Flat and Winfield. The Enid firm owned half the gin, Anthony funded land, and bonds financed construction. About 80 producers with 13 workers processed roughly 6,000 acres, despite rain reducing the crop. The 15,000-square-foot facility runs 12 hours daily, seven days weekly, turning 15,000 connected machines into two-minute 500-pound bales with 30 percent turnout and potential cottonseed oil byproducts.
