Argentine civilian courts to try nine ex-junta leaders
Argentina's Supreme Court ruled civilian judges may hear cases against nine former military leaders for abduction torture and killings during the 1970s. The move shifts cases from a stalled military tribunal to the Federal Court of Appeals, likened to Nuremberg in tone. The defendants include presidents Jorge Videla Roberto Viola and Leopoldo Galtieri and several navy army and air force chiefs.
