Johnson to miss season with broken foot for Chiefs

Kansas City's Larry Johnson had a broken right foot confirmed as season ending after the Nov. 4 injury. Coach Herm Edwards said Johnson would not play in the finale and noted the club should have placed him on injured reserve earlier. Brodie Croyle's status was doubtful for the last game with Damon Huard ready to start if needed. The Chiefs carry an eight game losing streak into the Jets game, their longest since 1989.

Ottawa Highs new coach keeps winning pace in 2007

In 2007 Ottawa High School replaced longtime coach David Grover with Jon McKowen as head of the boys basketball program. McKowen, bringing a full court approach and five years of Iowa prep experience, steered a strong start and close games while Grover’s 206 wins remain second to H. K. Stevens. Senior Victor Ojeleye posted 27 points and 13 rebounds per game as Ottawa stayed competitive in the Sub-State chase.

Broncos end season with rare losing record

The Denver Broncos finish 6-9, the second sub .500 season in Mike Shanahan’s 13-year era. Injuries and departures fueled the downturn after high hopes from offseason signings. A 23-3 loss at San Diego sealed the outcome, with safety John Lynch’s postgame outburst reflecting a disappointing campaign. The finale at Minnesota could push Denver to 6-10, matching 1999 for a 6-10 season under Shanahan.

Tight end becomes big time receiver

In the NFL evolution, tight ends have shifted from blockers to versatile weapons. Players like Jason Witten and Tony Gonzalez exemplify a golden era, with Witten tying a single-game catch record and both contending for the season mark of 102. The trend reflects a preferred mismatch upside as two tight ends near 100 receptions in a season.
