Indonesian band to make Rose Parade history in 140 piece lineup
The Sampoema Band Indonesia, 140 musicians aged 16 to 42, will be the country’s first representatives in the Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena. Led by Thom Jenkins they trained 40 hours a week for 11 months, overcoming unfamiliar trumpets and trombones as they prepared for the world’s premier parade. They join 22 bands and 60 floats amid high tech entries and other veteran groups, with USC and Michigan bands also performing before the Rose Bowl game.
