County Enterprise Zone Approved For All Franklin County

Holiday light displays linger in Kansas City area

Through early January visitors can enjoy Shawnee Mission Park light show at Renner Road with $5 weekday and $7 weekend admissions and 6 to 10:30 p.m. hours. Longview Lake Park offers over 150000 lights and 70 animated displays with charity donations, 6 to 10 nightly. Swope Park Light Display near the band pavilion is free and open to Jan 3. Kansas City Museum hosts Fairy Princess through Wednesday, noon to 4 p.m. weekends, with a model train.

Troopers Get Free Gasoline For Holiday Patrols

The second annual Holiday Highways Safety Program lets troopers in marked patrol cars receive an extra tank of gasoline at participating stations from now until January 3. Kansas Oil Marketers Association president George Leiszler says last year’s program may have reduced holiday accidents, with 54 in 1991 versus 173 in 1990, and nearly 250 free fills were donated to the Kansas Highway Patrol during the first year.

Finney aims bigger raises for state workers in 1993

Gov. Joan Finney said she wants state employees to receive larger pay raises in 1993 than in 1992 but warned legislative approval may be tough in a tight budget year. She noted a possible gap with the higher raises given to school teachers under the new finance law. She added that improvements are possible if the Legislature assists.
