Four Held In Thefts Of Paintings
Police hold four suspects after the recovery of two stolen Rembrandts and most of the $100,000 ransom paid for one painting. Lt. Col. McLaughlin said charges would be filed today as arrests at Foster, Ohio were confirmed. The paintings, valued at $1 million each, were stolen from the Taft Museum by two men who tied up a watchman. An intermediary, James L. Hough, aided police and museum officials in recovering Portrait of an Elderly Lady and described negotiations for a second painting, Man Leaning on a Sill, which the thieves threatened to burn. The ransom was left in an icebox outside a Foster tavern.

Topekan Arrested in Kidnapping Extortion Plot
FBI arrested Monty Joe Conroy of Topeka for attempted extortion of $10,000 in a kidnap threat against Brad Miller, 13. Miller was abducted Thanksgiving Eve and released about an hour later. After a series of threats, money was left at a prearranged site but Conroy was captured when he attempted to collect it. Bond set at $7,500. he is jailed in Topeka.

Pleasant Prisoners Escape Jail In Cherokee Oklahoma
Three inmates at Alfalfa County jail sawed from a cell and overpowered the jailer to take control Sunday night. Police in Kansas and Oklahoma were alerted as the escapees, Ronnie Bruner 30 Mike Bell 18 and Daniel Hartman 19, were believed to have taken a sawed off shotgun switchblade knives and possibly cash. Jailer George Coss was unhurt. They told him they only wanted to get out.
