Judge reduces sentence after thief returns heirloom ring
MEP OPERA Kan A state district judge lowered a theft and sexual battery sentence after 32 year old Ernest Taylor returned a $2,000 diamond ring with half carat center to the victim. The ring, once belonging to the woman's mother and grandmother, held emotional and monetary value. The judge suspended the sentences and placed Taylor on two years probation with intensive supervision, 100 hours of community service, and mandatory drug and alcohol treatment, plus a stay-away order. The ring appeared on the judge's desk before sentencing was completed.
