Cessna plant draw reshapes Independence Kansas
Experts anticipate a windfall for Independence as Cessna Aircraft Co plans a new aircraft assembly plant in the southeast Kansas town. The project promises about 1,000 jobs and a $20 million annual payroll, plus spin‑offs for health, housing, training, and regional business. Local officials expect the airport industrial park to attract more prospects, though economists warn of potential higher tax abatements. The plan could expand housing demand and spur land development as options from other developers surface.
