Cardinals fire Hanifan after 5-11 season
ST LOUIS AP Jim Hanifan was fired as head coach of the St. Louis Cardinals after a 5-11 season. Owner William V Bidwill cited the move as best for the team. Discussions followed about potential successors while Hanifan blamed offensive futility and failed field goals for the plunge. Injuries to Roy Green and Ottis Anderson’s absences also hurt the campaign. Hanifan said he would bounce back and reflect on the abrupt dismissal. Meanwhile Wichita State trimmed to 5-2 after a 64-57 win over Mississippi State as Gus Santos led with 18 points.
