John Douglas Benton 56 died Dec 20 2003 at Anderson County Hospital Garnett. Funeral 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church Garnett burial Garnett Cemetery. He taught at Westphalia and Garnett High Schools and coached local youth teams. He was survived by wife Joyce, mother Irene, daughter Angela Wright, sister Linda Burkhart and a grandchild. Memorials to the church.
Carolyn Sue Graffham, 63, died Sunday, December 21, 2003, at her Ottawa home. Memorial services are set for 2 p.m. Friday at Dengel & Son Mortuary. Cremation has taken place. The family will receive friends after the service. Memorials may go to the Salvation Army in care of the mortuary. Condolences may be emailed to the family via Dengel Mortuary. A full obituary will follow.
Markets in New York slipped Monday as investors cash in some gains after four weeks of advance amid a heightened terror alert. The Dow fell to 10,276.67 as trading volume waned with the Christmas holiday schedule. Analysts cautioned that security concerns may temper further gains despite seasonally strong year end. Vance M. Robrahn 77 of Ottawa died Friday December 19 2003 at his home. He served in WWII 1944 46 and worked in Burlington Kansas City and Ottawa as a clerk firefighter and police officer before retiring in 1988. He married Virginia Harvey in 1947 who died in 2002. Survivors include two daughters two brothers two sisters four grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Graceland Cemetery Burlington with funeral services at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church Ottawa.
Ozella Hodgson Garnett 101 died December 21 2003 at Golden Heights Living Center Garnett. Funeral 2:30 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church Garnett with Reverends Gale Mack and Gary Benjamin officiating. Born October 24 1902 in Linn County to Garrett J. and Clara E. Mundell Young. Burial in Garnett Cemetery. Family visitation 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Friday prior to service.
