Nebraska denies license for Boyd County low level waste site
After nearly 12 years of controversy the state refuses the US Ecology license for a proposed low level radioactive waste site in Boyd County Nebraska officials cite pollution risk and a high water table. Financial qualification concerns also factor in the denial. The state noted ongoing issues from a preliminary decision and reaffirmed the denial. Nebraska was chosen in 1987 to store waste from within the state and from four neighboring states in the Central Interstate Compact.
