In Laos the Plain of Jars changed hands again with North Vietnamese and Pathet Lao forces recapturing key positions after heavy fighting that cost four U S aircraft. Thai and Laotian troops retreat south and west as U S airstrikes continue and helicopters suffer losses.
Pakistan's new president Zulfikar Ali Bhutto underscores a pledge to retake East Pakistan, naming Nuril Amin as East Pakistani vice president. Amin, a foe of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, previously refused a prime ministerial post after the war.
