Santa dons suit to test Manhattan kindness on streets
Manhattan resident Tim Fields acted as Santa on a street corner for 1.5 hours to gauge reactions to a charity fund. A sign urged donations to Santa's Christmas Fund with proceeds split between the Firemen's Toy Fund and Christmas-For-All. Fields collected nearly $20 plus a Canadian nickel, with kids most responsive and adults often shy. The Mercury said no city ordinance bans street charity solicitations, and no challenging incidents occurred.
