Pfizer declines Celebrex pull amid safety concerns
Pfizer will not remove Celebrex from the market as NIH halts a cancer prevention trial amid findings that 800 mg raises cardiovascular risk by 3.4 times and 400 mg by 2.5 times versus placebo. FDA urges evaluation of alternatives and lowest effective dose while Vioxx’s exit looms. Ironically, Celebrex uses differ by condition with standard osteoarthritis at 200 mg daily and rheumatoid arthritis at 400 mg.
