Hutch woman and Hawley named Kansan of the Year

Patty Carey of Hutchinson and astronaut Steve Hawley will be honored as 1993 Kansans of the Year by the Native Sons and Daughters. Carey founded the Cosmosphere and Space Center, Hawley flew three space missions including the Discovery maiden flight and the Hubble mission. The banquet is January 29 at the Ramada Inn in Topeka.

City nuisance case aired in Ottawa hearing

Lawyers for Brown Barker and the city argued over due process in Ottawa nuisance proceedings. Hearing Officer Terry Solander set Jan 8 to submit arguments. Library sets 1993 budget in Ottawa

The Ottawa Library Board of Trustees adopted a 1993 budget of 278,075, about 15,000 less than projected due to shortfalls in city appropriations. The retro-con program for catalog computerization was cut from 15,000 to 3,200, with other cuts including 2,000 for books and pamphlets and reallocations to equipment.

New York AP reports Mark Goodson the TV game show creator of What's My Line The Price is Right and Family Feud died today from cancer He was 77 years old in New York City amid a long career shaping American television game shows.

Timberlake Ranch Christmas at the Ranch near Williamsburg conducts nightly hours 6 to 10 30 tonight and Saturday 6 to 9 30 Sunday through Wednesday and 5 to 7 p.m. Christmas Eve. Follow US 50 to Williamsburg west end and turn south three quarters of a mile to the marked entrance.
