Tax studies lead into property classification reform talks
In Topeka Kansas a Bennett Commission report prompts discussion on property tax reform. Recommendations include raising apartment assessment, lowering commercial and industrial rates, boosting machinery taxes, exempting the first 250000 of merchants inventory, keeping manufacturers inventory exempt, and uncertain changes to state property, with officials awaiting final drafts to inform 1991 legislative plans. A separate SRS subcommittee vote proposes shifting funds for children's programs to local youth councils for greater efficiency, ahead of the full task force meeting January 7-8.
