Royals trade Santiago to Pittsburgh for Marrero from Atlanta
The Kansas City Royals shipped Benito Santiago to the Pittsburgh Pirates and acquired Eli Marrero from Atlanta for right-hander Jorge Vasquez. Leo Nunez heads to KC as Santiago’s return, with about $1 million of Santiago’s salary due in 2005. Pirates seek a veteran catcher to handle roughly 100 games, replacing Jason Kendall.
