Appeals court upholds manslaughter conviction of former officer Cheek
Kansas Court of Appeals upholds the voluntary manslaughter conviction of former Kamsag City police officer John Cheek for the 1994 shooting death of Milton Foster at a Bonner Springs sports bar. The court affirming the conviction but reducing the enhanced sentence to 51 months and reinstating the final 90 month term on departure. Cheek claimed self defense and had retrials after an initial first degree murder conviction was overturned in 1997 due to juror replacement issues.
