Ex-coach gets probation after sexual assault plea
Walter Bastron, 39, a former Heritage High School basketball coach, pleads guilty to two charges under a plea deal. He receives four years deferred judgment and probation for sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust and two years probation for third degree sexual assault. The incidents involved a 17-year-old student in 1992 while he taught and coached at Heritage High School in Littleton. If he stays lawfully free for four years, the plea will be dropped and not on his record. Bastron resigned from the district July 1 after being on paid leave since February 22.
