Rural beats Ottawa 74 to 60 in tough nonleague win
Washburn Rural, ranked No.2 in class 5A, used a quick start to beat Ottawa High 74-60 at the OHS gym. John Hughes, Jon Ediger, and Shane Hillmer led Rural with 46 points among them and 24 rebounds as Ottawa fought back but could not match Rural’s size and inside scoring. Ottawa’s Evan Shaffer and Bob Jung led the Cyclones with double figures, while Rural dominated the boards 40-25 and shot 52 percent. The Cyclones remained 2-2, with Rural improving to 5-0 ahead of a holiday break.

The Davis sisters pace the girls with 20 points each as Waverly used a strong defense and full court press to build a large early lead and coast to the win. The teams head to Northern Heights Friday and host Marais des Cygnes Valley next Tuesday before Christmas.
