Fur Fair Pans Out For Youth in Kansas

A first of its kind Youth Fur Fair took place at the fairgrounds with illegal? organizers Robert Henderson and Ed Boggess guiding an educational morning and an afternoon fur auction. Youths from Fredonia Howard Moline Rantoul and Richmond brought coyote opossum coon bobcat muskrat and badger skins to auction with six fur buyers from Stockton Mo Leavenworth Lawrence and Girard. Prices ranged from 50 cents to $91 for bobcats with a total young trapper earnings across the event totaling hundreds of dollars. The event aimed to teach fur care and preparation and highlighted rising bobcat numbers and beaver pest issues while noting trapping rules under the Forestry Fish and Game Commission.
