Kansas Grown Christmas Trees Soon Available
Kansas grown Christmas trees will be available in usable quantity this year says Harold Gallaher extension forester at Kansas State University. He estimates 25 000 to 0 000 trees marketed this year and within two to three years Kansas growers can supply a large share of the half million Christmas trees purchased annually by Kansas residents. Locally grown trees are fresher and safer than imported ones cut in August or September and stored. Kansas trees are cut just before the holiday season and show less needle drop. Communities from Manhattan to Ottawa grow marketable trees this year and a 2 million dollar industry is projected to yield about 600 000 trees annually.
