Nursing program to hold pinning ceremony in Ottawa Sunday
The Bi-level Nursing Program of Neosho County Community College Ottawa branch will hold a 2 p.m. pinning ceremony at Ottawa High School for 1995 practical nurse and associate degree nursing graduates. Twenty two students completed each program, with the Ottawa branch hosting new classes each January and nursing classes at 226 Beech Ottawa.

ICHITA Kan AP An 18 year old testified he shot a rival gang member to death after repeated shootings in the weeks prior. Sedgwick County jury returned the verdict Thursday finding Jamie Evans guilty of voluntary manslaughter for shooting Marco Brown 18 on June 8. Assistant DA Kaufman argued the act was premeditated murder as Evans walked up and fired a .22 caliber handgun.

September sales rise in county with strong gains
County sales tax revenue surged with a more than 60 percent year over year increase in September. Fiscal year totals through September show revenue of 1,879, up 11.2 percent from the prior year. Pomona posted September sales tax at 1,999, up 53 percent, with fiscal year revenue of 4,852, about 9.62 percent higher than the previous year. Pomona maintains a 0.5 percent sales tax rate while Princeton voters approved a 1 percent tax in July 1, raising 191 through September.
