Wheat yield surge seen to lift beyond 35 bushels
Kansas State economist William Tierney Jr told about 60 attendees at a grain marketing seminar that national average wheat yields could hit 50 bushels per acre within five to seven years as breeders refine varieties. He warned exports may not improve with Soviet purchases shrinking, while prices could be supported by a $3.30 loan rate through 1985.

US Officials Eye Flexibility in Mexico Food Imports
U S A officials signal more leeway for foodstuffs in Mexico, but results remain modest in rice‑heavy regions. Fernando Noriega, head of the U S Feed Grains Council in Mexico City, says Mexico will lift imports to about 10.3 million tons in 1985 with at least 85 percent from the United States. He notes peasants cling to tortillas and beans, and private millers could handle imports if the government steps back, after a failed 1979 switch. Educational programs and better prep are anticipated to improve the transition this time.
