TWA Settlement Near End of Strike as Airlines Brace for Holidays
Washington AP reports negotiators reached an agreement between Trans World Airlines and its striking stewardesses aiming to end the six week walkout. If ratified by about 5,062 flight attendants next week, travel home for the holidays could be easier as most airlines report heavy holiday bookings. Union president Matt Guinan said the talks focused on higher wages and improved working conditions with rule changes, noting TWA had proposed a three year plan with smaller raises while the union sought seven percent raises in each of two years. Ratification vote scheduled for Tuesday.
