Large employers cut retiree drug benefits amid Medicare changes
A Kaiser Hewitt survey of 333 large firms shows most will keep retiree prescription drug coverage after Medicare's 2006 start, but many will reduce benefit levels or shift costs to retirees. Eight percent dropped subsided future retiree health benefits in 2004, 11 percent may do so next year, and 58 percent expect to accept Medicare's federal subsidy in 2006.
