Nominating Member Charges Commission With Racist Policies
Kansas lawmaker Norman Justice walked out of the Kansas Supreme Court Nominating Commission amid claims the group discriminated against Black candidates. He criticized the panel for removing the lone Black applicant, Cordell Meeks Jr., while chairman William Farmer denied any prejudicial action and said no formal vote had occurred. The commission had eliminated 16 of 26 candidates from consideration for the Supreme Court vacancy after the Fromme death, with Meeks reportedly among those not advanced. The panel adjourned and will reconvene next week.
