4 H geologists plan fossil hunts as weather improves. Rex Crane says specimens must be labelled by range and township and named scientifically. A trophy will reward the best geology box at the Franklin County Fair in 1979 with field trips starting Sundays. They can hunt in Anderson Franklin and Miami county quarries.

At the Kansas Soybean Association annual meeting in Ottawa University auditorium, William May of the Federal Land Bank Wichita urged land to rival gold and diamonds as an investment. He cited rising land values from 1950 to today, with current averages around 400 per acre and some farmland at 4,000 per acre, noting inflation, population growth, and rising farmer incomes as drivers while warning of possible mid downturns before continuing gains. Farmer speaker Charles Hamon of Valley Falls also addressed the gathering.
