American Eagle tax abatement hearing set in Ottawa

A public hearing is scheduled for December 21 on whether American Eagle Outfitters should receive a property tax exemption for a major expansion of its Ottawa distribution center. The plan doubles the facility to 540,000 square feet, adds jobs, and spans a 10 year abatement from January 2007 to December 2016. Company officials expect over 200 new jobs and say the project will boost the local economy. City Manager Weldon Padgett called the expansion potentially "huge benefits" for the area after a required cost benefit analysis.
