Mansfield Reconsiders Breakup Plan and Health Care Pace
Washington AP reports retiring Senate Majority Leader Mike Mansfield may rethink proposed breaking up large companies and a national health care system. He favors phased health care and gradual troop withdrawal from Korea with an aerial umbrella. He supports a vigorous probe of cash gifts from South Korean Tongsun Park and says House Ethics Committee will run a full inquiry into Park’s influence efforts.

Washington AP The national Council of Better Business Bureaus reversed itself and now lists Father Flanigan's Boys Town as complying with fundraising standards. BBB official Ruth Atchison said the Nebraska group had previously solicited funds without disclosing $200 million in unrestricted funds and was left out of the accredited list last August. Officials have since mailed new materials with full financial disclosure and the charity has come into compliance. Boys Town, in Nebraska, houses about 400 underprivileged boys and funds mental illness research in children.
