Christmas Programs Dominate Local School Scene
Ottawa area schools host a flurry of Christmas concerts and open houses through Dec. 20. Students at OJHS Eugene sing and act out stories while Lincoln Hawthorne Garfield Eisenhower Field and nearby campuses stage carols, plays and music from choirs orchestras and bands. Open houses follow performances with departmental demonstrations and parent tours.

Truman Holding Own in Serious Condition at Hospital
Former president Harry S. Truman, 88, remains in serious condition at Research Hospital and Medical Center with heart and respiratory issues. A hospital spokesman said vital signs fluctuated but were within normal ranges at 10 a.m. EST. he was admitted December 5 for lung congestion and moved from critical to serious status over the weekend.
