Pioneer 10 fades but still tweets from the edge of space
After 25 years in space Pioneer 10 remains in weak contact with Earth. NASA scientists halted data requests as signals fade and expect loss of detectable transmission next year. The craft, launched in 1972 to study Jupiter, has travelled beyond Pluto into the Kuiper Belt, powered by a nuclear heater and set to drift past another star in 30,000 years.

Researcher dies from monkey virus eye exposure at Yerkes
An Emory University hospital patient, a Yerkes Primate Research Center staff member, died after contracting herpes B virus believed to have entered her eye while handling a caged rhesus monkey. She wore eye protection but no facial shield during the transfer. The virus, typically harmless in monkeys, is deadly to humans and is not airborne.
