Garnett basketball dominated Ottawa 80 to 59 as Mike Stockton started the second period with a 3 and the Cyclones pulled away. Ottawa struggled at the line with 22 free throws to Garnett’s eight and Clark criticized officiating as unfair to the Cyclones.
Central Heights (3-1) beat Jayhawk-Linn 78-50 as Craig Adkinson led with 18 points and Rusty Cannady added 14. Jayhawk-Linn’s Shane White scored 23 in defeat. Jayhawk girls edged by CH 44-33 as Dana Wiederholt held to 10. Central Heights to face Burlington next.
Baldwin High School defeated Wellsville 44 to 30 as Kelly Flory scored 21 points and caused six steals. The Bulldogs improved to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the Frontier League, while Wellsville dropped to 1-4 and 0-2. Baldwin led 6-0 early, built a 15-7 fourth quarter burst, and travels to Garnett next Tuesday. Wellsville hosts Louisburg Thursday.
Waverly Bulldogs beat Madison Bull dogs 81-60 to move to 4-1 and stay undefeated in Lyon County League. Mitch Sharon led Waverly with 20 points, Nick Bailey 18, Chad Sommer 13, as the team shot 56 percent while Madison made 41 percent. Waverly travels to Leroy Friday for a non league game.
Waverly High sophomore Kentra Johansen scored 28 points with 14 rebounds and 6 steals to lift the hosts to a 61-40 victory over Madison. Kim Madden added 11 as Waverly improved to 1-4 and heads to LeRoy for a pre holiday finale.
Garnett JV lost as Ottawa High School held off a 10-0 Garnett run in the final 1 1/2 minutes to secure their second win. Cory Norwood 13 and Jeff Dieterich 10 led Ottawa in the first half. Ben Janssen topped Garnett with 16 in a game that stayed close late. Ottawa Freshmen beat Garnett 62 41 with Ratliff 24 leading Ottawa and Pelton 12 for Garnett.
Olpe led early and held on for a 52 to 50 win over MdCV as Steve McIntosh led Valley with 11 points and five rebounds helped by Lichtenauer. MdCV trim deficit to one late but Olpe stayed ahead, improving to 4 2 in league play while Valley opens its league slate.
