Long Tractor Drive Rally Across Kansas Ends In Topeka
Ken Palmgren drove 400 miles aboard a lime green tractor with 150 units in mass caravan from Goodland to Topeka to protest low grain prices. 5,000 farmers gathered for a rally amid cold December skies, threatening a nationwide strike on December 14 unless prices rise to parity. Palmgren, teacher turned farmer, voiced debt and foreclosure fears while praising colleague Melvin Musil who endured the full journey in a 1938 diesel tractor.
