TOPEKA Kan AP Leonard Ring KPERS chief said the state may take another six months to push its suit against Kansas City financier Frank Morgan and others over a $65 million Home Savings Association loss. He noted planned lawsuits against Shepler's Western Wear in Wichita and a $30 million Merchandise Mart investment in Overland Park, with possible more actions at the Jan 8 KPERS meeting. The board learned direct placement losses stabilizing at 138.5 million after two years of no new investment write offs.

Ottawa Carol Fest invites area students to perform
The Ottawa Carol Fest returns for a third year at 6 30 p m on December 18 in Haley Park inviting Ottawa area students through grade eight to join a children s choir. City commissioner Charles Gillette organized the event in 1990 and hopes it becomes a tradition with all commissioners directing songs. The program features Bethany Baptist Choir Ottawa University instructor Joyce Stuermer on keyboard Ottawa Bible Church Choir and solo singing by the children s choir with input from music instructors Alan Cunningham Janie Kuehn and Shelley Todd. Santa Claus will visit and hot chocolate is provided by the Ottawa Chamber of Commerce. An invocation will be given by Rev Henry Roberts and Mayor Joan Tyson will greet attendees. After performances the crowd will sing carols together.
