Garden City Tech Prep Aims To Cut Dropouts In Kansas
Judy Crumble leads Garden City High School in a pilot tech prep program with Garden City Community College. The plan uses the final two high school years to build directly toward technical training and a two year degree, with real world salaries shown. About 400 students are targeted to stay in school, with courses ranging from cosmetology to criminal justice and college credit offered. The program seeks to model for other districts and reduce the 17 percent dropout rate in Garden City High School, highlighting that unemployment among high school dropouts is about 30 percent versus lower for those with tech prep degrees.
