State Hospitals Seek Budget Reductions in Kansas
TOPEKA AP The Kansas Department of Social Welfare and three state mental hospitals asked for about 12.6 million in cuts to their budget requests, led by an 11.4 million cut from a 74.1 million request. The reductions target funding for nursing home care under Title 19. Osawatomie State Hospital dropped from 5 million to 4.6 million, Larned from 4.9 to 4.4 million, and Topeka State Hospital from nearly 6 million to about 5.6 million as the Legislature finalizes funding. Marvin Larson of Social Welfare noted many cuts may be restored and that the Budget Division trims new programs to force gubernatorial and legislative justification.
