Dutch refugees expelled from Indonesia due to the West New Guinea dispute began arriving in Singapore today. A Garuda Indonesia Airlines plane carried 17 Dutch nationals, the vanguard of a movement that could involve most of the 46,000 Dutch in Indonesia. An Argonaut plane with 48 more Dutch nationals was en route. Officials reported a British plane had been denied entry to load passengers. The Netherlands appealed to Indonesia to allow Dutch ships and aircraft to enter Indonesian waters to evacuate, and a letter from Prime Minister Willem Drees urged entry for Dutch-chartered vessels. Indonesia has barred KLM from operating and Dutch shipowners have halted port entries following ship seizures and nationalization.
