Violence fuels Iraqi political alliance amid attacks in Mosul and Baghdad
A car bomb in Mosul and mortar rounds in Baghdad killed three and wounded seven as Shiite leaders move to form the United Iraqi Alliance. The coalition will include the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution, the Dawa party, and Moqtada al Sadr’s movement, with Ahmad Chalabi’s Iraqi National Congress expected to join. More clashes occurred in Mosul, and mortar fire targeted a National Guard base and the Italian Embassy in Baghdad. Authorities noted Shiite dominance in elections and debated inclusions for a broad list ahead of the January 30 vote.
