Sutter Signs Six-Year, Ten Million Braves Deal
Free agent Bruce Sutter and the Atlanta Braves agreed to a six year contract worth 10 million with part funding deferred compensation. Turner announced the deal at Turner Broadcasting headquarters after a six hour meeting with Sutter and Braves officials. Sutter cited Turner’s commitment and Atlanta’s beauty plus watching Dale Murphy as reasons for choosing Atlanta over St. Louis. He noted no trade clause was resolved but an overall agreement was reached, while Rick Sutcliffe planned a decision next week.
